What have you decided to take from 2020?
- Is it that things can happen in the blink of an eye.
- Is it that life is short.
- Is it that time flies’ overs us and leaves its shadow behind?
- Is it that we must adapt to change and adversity?
These thoughts are away from the mere washing of hands and sanitizing, but thoughts of the real impact of COVID-19 that it has had on each of us because of COVID’S trickling effect in every nook and cranny of our lives and of our nation. Within one year the world has bourne witness to almost two million deaths. Right here within the parameters of our 238 square miles we have mourned the deaths of our citizens. Perhaps this has exposed the reality that at any second something unanticipated or extraordinary can occur.
2020 has redefined so many things, our faith and hope, believing and realizing that a greater being exist. Well if those who have ears to hear can hear this message and those who’s eyes can read this message, then, you are a testimony that we were hard pressed on every side, but not crushed, perplexed, neither were we in despair. 2020 can also be mentioned as a year that we can be immensely proud of, personally and as an organization. We have seen brothers keeping each other, nations lend a hand and committed employees stand against the odds like SLASPA’s dedicated team of 450. You have and continue to be the thread that holds the very fabric of this organization from Air to Sea.
Not everything though can be related to COVID-19. Let’s not forget the successes which were unrelated to the pandemic like the extension of the departure gates at the Hewanorra International Airport, the successful hosting of the IMO’s Regional Workshop, the commencement of works for the HIA Redevelopment Project, the commissioning of the Kalmar Gloria Reach Stacker just to name a few.
So, as we stride into 2021, let us pocket the lessons of 2020 and carry it as hope into our new chapters, into our new achievements, into our new developments anchored by the reality that when we cooperate and unite in common cause for a common goal, only then will our greatest problems be solved.
Happy New Year From Team PortCast to you!
