Gestures Like These….

Whilst addressing the significance of an effective employee-employer relationship, Former Senior Vice President of Apple, Angela Ahrendts stated;

"Everyone talks about building a relationship with your customer. I think you build one with your employees first."

An effective employer-employee relationship leads to employee engagement, building employee morale and also influences organizational culture. Studies have suggested that when employees are satisfied, the entire business will benefit. Some years ago research undertaken by an economist at the University of Warwick found that happy employees were 12% more productive, while dissatisfied workers proved 10% less productive. In essence, when employees feel discouraged and undervalued, it will affect their performance.

 

Many organizations and leaders have not fully appreciated this reality, they have yet understood the correlation between employee satisfaction and productivity. So, when these acts do occur at the Saint Lucia Air and Sea Ports Authority (SLASPA) and our employees are valued, it is paramount that we recognize these efforts.

 

Today we join hands in applauding the Accounts Department for their commitment to the Authority, and Financial Controller at SLASPA, Mr. Keith Thompson for his gesture of appreciation to his team. On Valentines Day, Mr. Thompson presented a unique delivery of treats to his dedicated staff of the Accounts Department. A dedicated team of more than 10 employees who together manage the finances of SLASPA. Most importantly, the team ensures full transparency in its transactions, whilst also providing specialized, centralized support to other departments and managers.

 

This department, like many others at SLASPA, continue to move the organization. For this reason, heartfelt gestures such as these help to motivate and reward staff are indeed the most valuable asset within the organization.
